This site is a virtual tour that lets you compare the aural environment at various places in and near Portland, Oregon. For each photograph, you can listen to a sound recording taken from the exact same spot. Click on one of the green buttons to the left—such as "Gathering Places"—to get started.

Note that you can also experiment by listening to the sounds from one place while looking at the photograph from another.
