At its intersection with Perry St. in Lower Manhattan, the Hudson River Greenway bears no resemblance to its industrial past. Both park and state-funded transportation corridor, it has well-manicured garden beds, stunning views of the river, separate rights-of-way for cyclist and pedestrian traffic, and seven lanes of motor vehicle traffic.
Traffic on the roadway controlled by traffic signals: 90 seconds of green and yellow, and 30 seconds of red. The sound sample from this site includes both stopped and moving traffic so that you can get an idea of how traffic affects the level of noise on the greenway. Related Sites: Farther downtown, at Battery Park City's North Meadow, the greenway is shielded from traffic by apartment buildings. At 30th Street, the greenway goes past a heliport. |
