The southern portion of the Hudson River Greenway runs through Battery Park City's North Meadow. The meadow is shielded from traffic noise by high-rise apartments, but even this tony refuge isn't completely sheltered: the shoreline just so happens to be a corridor for airborne traffic.

During the five minute period on a Monday morning that the noise level at this site was recorded, three planes and two helicopters passed overhead. This is probably typical air traffic, at least: on a Saturday morning there were five planes and three helicopters within five minutes.
